Dr. Thomas S. Fitzmaurice

La Salle Academy New York City has named Dr. Thomas S. Fitzmaurice as president effective July 1, 2023. With the endorsement of the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees and his appointment by the member of the Brothers of the Christian Schools District of Eastern North America, Dr. Fitzmaurice joins La Salle with years of experience in both Catholic education and business.

Dr. Fitzmaurice succeeds Brother Thomas Casey, FSC, who is retiring at the conclusion of his term as La Salle’s President.

Dr. Fitzmaurice currently teaches in higher education as a finance professor at Mount Saint Mary College and has teaching experience on the secondary level as a physics teacher at both Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx and The Mary Louis Academy in Queens. He also worked for the Archdiocese of New York as a business manager for its Global Regional School System. Before his career in education, Dr. Fitzmaurice worked for several years as a financial professional at JPMorgan Chase, HSBC Bank, and ING.

“I consider myself blessed to have had the opportunity to receive a Catholic education,” said Dr. Fitzmaurice. “While the academic needs of students are constantly evolving, the need for a Catholic education rooted in the teachings of Jesus Christ is as essential today as it was when La Salle Academy opened its doors in New York City 175 years ago.”

He holds both PhD and MS degrees in education from Fordham University, an MBA in finance from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, and a BE in engineering from Manhattan College. Dr. Fitzmaurice grew up in Queens and currently lives with his wife and three children in Yonkers.

La Salle Academy is a college-preparatory Catholic high school that serves a culturally diverse group of students from all five boroughs. La Salle celebrates a spirit of brotherhood grounded in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the tradition of Saint John Baptist de La Salle, the Patron Saint of Teachers.
