From Lasallian Notes Spring 2022

La Salle Institute music programs will benefit from the successful campaign.

La Salle Institute in Troy NY is thriving! From strong enrollment brought about by the success of a Mission Expansion Initiative, an ambitious Capital Campaign, and a new academic partnership with neighboring Hudson Valley Community College, there is a lot of good news to share!

To meet a growing need in the Troy/Albany area, La Salle Institute became co-educational in the fall of 2021. Between initial female enrollments, and an unprecedented number of mid-year student registrations, there are more than 70 young women now enrolled at La Salle. Overall enrollment is also higher than it has been in many years, a testament to the confidence in La Salle that continues to grow in local communities.

The first Cadet female soccer team is ready for action.

Meanwhile, La Salle is bringing to a close their Proud of our Past – Assuring our Future Capital Campaignthe first campaign in twenty years, and the largest in school history. Through tremendous stakeholder generosity, La Salle is on track to exceed their campaign goal of $5.8 million!  Gifts received have already been used to complete facilities renovations related to the Mission Expansion, improve the music program by purchasing new instruments and furniture for the band room, create a number of new endowed scholarships, and update school technology.

And new this spring, La Salle is announcing their “Cadets in College” program!  Through a new and innovative partnership with neighboring Hudson Valley Community College, ranked as one of the largest and most productive two-year colleges in the United States, LSI high school students can begin earning college credit, at no additional cost to families.  Classes will be offered over 6 pathways, from health sciences to engineering, and most classes will be held on HVCC’s campus, allowing students to experience what it is like to be in college.

Strong academic programs have helped spur enrollment.

La Salle happily welcomes Christian Brothers to campus whenever possible. Students, faculty and staff were recently delighted by a visit from Br. Robert Schaefer, FSC, Visitor/Provincial for the District of Eastern North America (DENA).

Shortly after his visit, Br. Robert shared these thoughts, ” La Salle has a tremendous history but it also has a clear eye on the future.  The excitement around the addition of female Cadets was energizing.  I was so impressed by the spirit of welcome that was extended to them.  Each of the young women I met spoke of feeling welcomed and accepted.  The faculty found the transition smooth and the young men felt it was about time. … I might even have caught Cadet-fever!”
