Academy freshmen continue the tradition of
signing the oath to live with honor, serve others, and strive for wisdom.
Last summer, Lasallian schools across the country were creating plans to continue their educational missions for students. Christian Brothers Academy in Lincroft was at the forefront of innovative ideas.
Led by President, Brother Frank Byrne, FSC ‘75 and Principal, Mr. Ross Fales, the administration was determined to welcome nearly 880 young men back to CBA’s 157-acre campus for in-person instruction by the fall of 2020. The Academy did just that – and slowly but surely, little pieces of normal began to reappear in Lincroft.

Perhaps one of the most recognizable facets of CBA returned in February, when the school was able to host small Ash Wednesday services for each grade. The feeling in the socially-distanced gymnasium was one of comfort and familiarity for both students and faculty.
Although postponed until March, this year’s freshmen class was able to experience CBA’s patented Oath Day. Each of the 200+ freshmen signed the official Class of 2024 Academy Oath, which will hang in CBA’s main lobby for the duration of their high school careers.

Our service program at CBA has been able to reformat to continue through COVID-19. With typical avenues of outreach obstructed by the pandemic, campus minister Mr. Matt Butler drew up ways for students to help those in the local community, including multiple contactless collections and donation drives.
“I am extremely proud of our Academy men for the consistency with which they have been selflessly giving since the start of the school year,” said Principal Fales. “They continue to rise to the occasion, despite their own setbacks due to these unusual and difficult circumstances.”
The Academy has also been working hard to complete the Forever CBA: Securing Our Mission capital campaign. In late March, CBA surpassed $11 million in pledges and gifts, placing the campaign at more than 92 percent of our $12 million goal.
“We are grateful to all who have attended the campaign information sessions and to those who have made pledges and gifts,” said Br. Frank. “The campaign parents’ committee is working hard to get 100% participation at whatever level is possible for each to help us reach our goal.”The focus of the campaign is twofold: building the endowment for scholarships and school programs, and upgrading campus facilities. The Academy plans to begin work on several new athletic and academic facilities this summer.
CBA is a two-time National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence for a reason. Even amidst a pandemic, the Colts were excelling in the classroom, on the athletic field, in the community, and on the stage. The Academy offers over 60 advanced academic courses, has a 12:1 student to teacher ratio, and 96% of 2020 graduates are attending a U.S. News & World Report nationally-ranked college or university. Over the past five years, each graduating class has averaged over 100 hours of community service per student, which greatly exceeds the 50 hours required for graduation. Meanwhile, the 18 interscholastic athletic teams, dynamic extracurricular clubs, and award-winning performing arts allow for students to foster an unparalleled brotherhood during their time at the Academy.
For more than sixty years, CBA has been developing young men of faith, character, and action who are prepared to serve society as leaders and innovators.
